Friday Arrival
Discover the colourful town of Killarney adjacent to the magnificent Killarney National Park. Choose from a variety of craft shops, bookshops and restaurants followed by a drink in a great choice of local pubs.
Saturday Killarney National Park – Old Kenmare Road
Distance: 10.5km/6.5miles Ascent: 230m/ 750ft. Descent: 330m/1,100ft
This leg of the Kerry Way takes you into Killarney National Park – through ancient oak woods, along the Old Kenmare Road, with a descent beside the spectacular Torc Cascade and into the gardens of Muckross House (19th century mansion), with its welcoming teashop. Optional extended walk (1.6 km/1 mile) to visit to the ruins of Muckross Friary (15th century).
Sunday Killarney National Park – Ross Island & Knockreer
The section of the Killarney National Park brings you alongside the fabulous Lakes. Take a tour of the 15th century Ross Castle, home of the O Donoghue clann. Explore the sites of pre-historic copper mines amid the woodlands of Ross Island and continue to Killarney via the demesne and gardens of Knockreer. The native Irish Red Deer may be observed en-route.
Distance: up to 13km/8 miles. Ascent/Elevation: very little.
